The 30Kg limit is set by the freight companies. The following all weigh less than 30kg: a rotary tumbler, a magnetic polisher, the UltraLite kiln, the Kitiki Minkiln, and the Paragon SC-1, SC-2, SC-3, BlueBird Junior, BlueBird, Caldera series, FireFly series, Home Artist, Xpress E9A, and Xpress Q11A. So, no UK mainland delivery charge.

Anything weighing more than 30kg and less than 100kg costs the same: 62.00 excluding VAT. If you order on line, you're agreeing to this, and the shipping charge will be shown on your invoice. For shipping charges for kilns heavier than 100kg, mail or call.

Kiln Furniture Kits.

Some kilns have a recommended furniture kit, an appropriate mix of shelves and shelf posts, included in the price, so that you can start work straight away.
It's not an expensive collection that I've put together for you: one that you have to pay for but might never use. However, extra shelf kits allow you to stack your work, optimising your use of the firing chamber volume, and your time.

It's very important to understand what the shelf kit consists of, why you might need a different one, and why you might need more than one. If you're not sure, go back and read more before completing your order,

Extra kits, ordered and delivered separately, may be heavy and need special protective packing: so mail or call first to check if there will be an extra delivery charge.

Cherry Heaven On-Line Shopping: Stock And Availability

Usually, the the SC series kilns are in stock, ready for delivery to your address. All the larger kilns are made to order, take about 10-12 working days to build, about four working days to ship, and will arrive in a box, in a crate, or on a palette.

Paragon in the US makes around 400 different models, many of which are available in five colours, so doesn't have a warehouse full of ready-to-ship kilns. It's not feasible to showcase the extensive range at the Cherry Heaven shop in the UK, especially as most kilns are protectively boxed, crated, or paletted for international shipping or local delivery.

Electrical Requirements.

Kilns made outside the UK have been re-engineered to work on a single-phase 230V-240V mains supply. They've been comprehensively tested to meet the demanding UL 499 standard in the US and are CE marked for the EU.

UK voltage used to be 240V and European used to be 220V. The EU decided to harmonise the voltage to 230V, but the implementation costs were too high for almost no real benefit. So, to appear harmonised, the legal voltage limits were changed to 230V, but within the range 216V-253V. Generally, in the UK, 240V is a reliable average.

UK Safety.

It'll be too late to think about safety practices and equipment after an accident. Apart from kiln accessories, the on-line shop includes heat resistant ceramic blocks and cloths, digital reminder-timers, fire extinguishers, heat-resistant gloves, glare-resistant glasses, and clear protective glasses.

All particulates represent a health risk if they're breathed in, so it's very important to wear a HEPA mask when mixing powders, handling charcoal, sanding dried clays, and cleaning out your kiln. Ideally, use protective glasses.

It's important to have your fire extinguisher near your kiln. Read the instructions as soon as you unpack it, learn how to treat burns, buy a basic first aid kit, and fit a smoke alarm.

For private home use, check your building and contents insurance for relevant exclusions. For business use, you'll need public liability insurance and will have to comply with health and safety regulations.

Businesses and course providers might have to get change-of-use planning consent for proposed building changes and provide staff training, safety glasses, fire extinguishers, first-aid materials, disabled access, a bathroom, and fire exits.

EU Safety.

The heating elements are either embedded in ceramic fibre, or the kiln has a door or a lid cut-off switch. US-made kilns often have live heating elements that are exposed whenever the door or lid is open. To comply with EU safety regulations, an additional switch, included in the price, is fitted to cut off the power whenever the kiln is opened. Exposed live elements are very dangerous, and illegal in the UK.

Guarantees.

All new kilns, tumblers, and polishers are guaranteed for 12 months, and user-fitted spare parts for 90 days. In the very unlikely event of a fault, find your invoice or other proof of purchase and call: even if you bought the kiln from a reseller. The UltraLite is guaranteed for 6 months.

Shelves are made from cordierite: a very tough ceramic that will last for years and years. They're checked before despatch and are wrapped protectively. But they're not guaranteed and we cannot be responsible for any later damage.

Cherry Heaven On-Line Shopping.

It's vital to provide a clear delivery address and an appropriate telephone number, and to be there to receive your parcel. If you're not there, freight companies will leave a card: if you ignore the card, the parcel will eventually be returned to us and there'll be a re-delivery charge.

If you have to be out, leave a signed note on your door asking the delivery driver to leave the parcel with someone nearby who'll sign for it and keep it indoors for you.

Heavy kilns come in a large box, in a crate, or on a palette. Delivery drivers are not allowed to lift very heavy goods on their own, so make sure that someone can help.

All kilns come with the correct interior furniture: checked before delivery. So take care not to discard shelves, posts, or fibre cloths, with the packaging.
